MOMS HAVE FUN. LOSE WEIGHT. MAKE MONEY. all three things are possible with DietBet!
I have never been one to base my self worth on the numbers on a scale-but when I went for my annual physical- and stripped down to my bra and undies (determined to get as many pounds off that scale number as possible) at four feet eleven inches tall while I thought I looked good my doctor felt weighing in at 142 pounds it was time I “took my health seriously”.
Did, at that very moment I want to DECK my internist? No, because she was just relaying the facts- which were that based on my height, I was teetering precariously close to obesity. And the thing about gaining those extra 27 pounds– it was a gradual process. It didn’t happen overnight. It was like watching grass grow- and as my jean size increased, well I just bought bigger jeans, I wore longer sweaters and I went blonder. For some reason I thought if my hair was really light it would take away the focus from my bum.
I needed to be ready. I needed to be accountable. So I got myself a trainer. And I made my husband be the food police. I know I told him he could smack my hand if I reached for something naughty. And I feel proud to say after many many month I have lost those 27 pounds. But I still have more to go, and I still need to be accountable to someone– other than my husband- who is getting quite heady with power at this point. I need my girls- I need other women- to encourage, inspire and root for me, as I root for them. Oh and if you add a little money into the mix well that just makes the journey that much sweeter. Which is why I a REALLY excited about joining DietBet… What is it? It’s a clever new way to lose weight …a “social dieting game.”
In a nutshell…by turning one’s weight loss goals into a competition, it turns losing weight into a fun sport. And by putting money on the line, you can actually make it possible to get paid to lose weight!
So why am I writing about DietBet right now? Well they are hosting a NYC Moms DietBet beginning February 12th in which they hope to gather moms across the city for a fun weight-loss challenge. And the good news is they don’t condone one specific diet or exercise regime over another, rather they believe that weight loss can be effective, successful, and fun through community support between people who have share a common affinity, such as motherhood in NYC ( a sentiment that COMPLETELY resonate with me!)
And the folks at Diet Bet have done their research and come across phenomenal results as it relates to their participants:
- 90% of participants lose over 5 lbs on average.
- 32% of participants reach their target goal of 4% of their starting weight and end up “winning” their game and splitting the pot with the other winners, while losing over 9 lbs on average!
- 100% of participants have fun.
So how can you join me?? DietBet is hosting a “NYC Moms Dietbet” that starts on February 12 and ends 4 weeks later on March 11. The buy in is $40. Each player’s goal is to lose 4% of their body weight. They use before and after photos that are privately submitted to DietBet to verify winners. Those who reach their weight loss goals of -4% will split the pot among the winners, WHICH I LOVE– in other words IT IS not a winner-take-all model.
Like-minded Moms in the DietBet can support each other by sharing healthy family-friendly recipes, workout tips and words of encouragement. I am ready to make this HUGE. The more players, the more competition, the more fun, and the bigger the pot. OH and the BEST PART This game is not exclusive to Moms in NYC, so non-NYC Moms you are ALL INVITED! This is such a great idea. I have a few pregnancy lbs to lose and an incentive is very helpful! I just might consider doing this.
